The Boy Who Wanted To Rock by David Weiser is a fun picture book all about rock'n'roll!

I love a good children's picture book packed full of fiction and fun! The illustrations are awesome, the rhyming scheme is on point and music, music, music!

Doesn't it just suck when you pick up an instrument and you aren't amazing at it right away? Shouldn't we all just be magically gifted to strum that guitar? This story brings me back to my youth where I was learning to play the flute. You learn how to show more count, what a beat is, the staff, and all the musical terminology. Once you get practicing and playing, you begin to get better! This book helps explain all of that in a fun, engaging way. Plus, it has a cute dog! Who doesn't love cute dogs?!

The ending is a joy too - ROCK AND ROLL! With some surprise guests. I love it!

There was so many great small introductions to parts of music theory in this book. I think this is an excellent tool for parents, guardians and educators to get children interested in music (whether it's at home or in the classroom!). It's way more fun to learn from a picture book than lectures anyways. Why not try it out?

I love music and as such, I wanted to see if this book delivers on what it promises: making music easy for little kids. And to my pleasure, it does! With easy-to-understand examples, author David Weiser introduces the concepts of rhythm, pitch and tempo. He uses his background as a keyboard programmer to make sure children understand the basics and the importance of regular practice. There was just one part that I felt he could have touched upon: if there are 8 notes in a musical scale, why show more does a guitar have only 5 of those? I'm sure at least some children will ask this query. But this minor idea aside, the book is pitch perfect! Having so many animals in the story is an added bonus for the little ones.

The story is told in rhythmic verse, and, not surprisingly for a book on music, the rhythm is accurate and balanced throughout without seeming forced. The illustrations are really cute.
