An in-depth view from an insider with personal acquaintances ranging from the officers in the Confederate Army up to, and including, President Davis himself. The language reflects the writing of the time and at times is difficult to follow. Engagements and events referenced, as well as the general timeline followed by the author, is difficult to ascertain; however, paired with a good Almanac or Civil War Dictionary (such as Boatner's), the missing details may be learned. An excellent show more reference for the general feeling that existed within the Confederacy throughout the war years; an invaluable resource and view into the minds of the upper classes of Confederate Capitals. show less
