This biography is 17 pages!! It is about Betsy Ross. It touches the four man points of her life, the early years, the first flag, later years, and Symbol of America. The story tells you that her real name is Elizabeth Griscom, and Betsy was just a nickname. In the year of 1752 is when she was born, and in the year 1758 is when she learns to sew. She gets married and opens a shop with her husband in 1773. Just three years later her husband dies and she has to run the shop by herself. A year show more later in 1777 she designs a flag with stars and stripes which becomes the American flag. In her later years she remarries twice and had seven daughters and many grandchildren. In the year 1836 she passes away.

I thought biographies were boring but this one was interesting. I liked the way it touched on the important information instead of dragging on and on.

I would read the facts to my students. For example, I would have a timeline on the board and have the students help me place the events in order.

This book briefly tells the story of Dolley Madison (Payne), from her birth in North Carolina to her important role as First Lady. I like this book for its timeline of events on the bottom of every page. This would be a good book to use in a 1-2 grade classroom to introduce biographies.
