The reviews had me expecting a bunch of laugh out loud moments reading this book. The reviews were wildly inaccurate. There were definitely a few funny moments and/or stories, but this woman is a stand-up comic after all. She also comes across as a very kind and genuine person who had a fairly idyllic life growing up. Then she got married and instead of having her life continue to be more of the same, her husband came across as a distant, cold fish. She makes light of it, but most of the show more stories regarding him had me saying What in the World over and over again. A few examples, big and small, him having her pack up and move across the country away from her life without a word or having any part in that decision. Him giving away her dresser without any notice and her having to store her panties and everything else in that dresser on the floor. Him and only him deciding how to spend all the huge amounts of new money she was bringing in. Her having to trade sex for groceries or her kid's shoes near the beginning of her marriage. What a cringe worthy and emotionally unavailable husband! And I'm definitely being kind. I am not recommending this one. It was well written and edited and a quick read, but otherwise not noteworthy, as I ended up being really mad at the husband and her not seeming to realize her treated her pretty awfully. show less
What in the World? By Leanne Morgan is a 2024 Convergent Books publication.

Like many people, I discovered Leanne through social media via those short comedy clips. I thought she was hilarious. Her Netflix Special is really good- so if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.

Naturally, I wanted to find out more about Leanne and how she finally got her big break and more about her background.

Leanne was born with a natural comedic talent. When she came to realize she had a knack for show more making people laugh, she began to seriously consider making a career out of it.

Meanwhile, she married, raised a family, and went through various ups and downs while she pursued her dreams of making it big in Hollywood.

It was an interesting journey for sure. I like Leanne. Not only is she funny, but she’s got a big heart, and she still seems down to earth, with occasional room service being one of her biggest extravagances… one of the few her husband, Chuck Morgan, reluctantly acquiesced to. (Chuck Morgan is a topic best left to Leanne to tell you about, as he was a few generations behind in his though processes- I’m a bit older than Leanne, and some of Chuck’s traits reminded me of people in my own family who are in their mid-eighties- not their mid-fifties!)

Okay, that’s my only vent… and trust me, Leanne had plenty of her own vents about Chuck, so I don’t feel too bad. I know he acts like my husband sometimes, too! He never gets too excited about anything. Everything is always just ‘okay’. LOL!

Other than that, Leanne kept me in stitches as usual- though I had heard some of this material in her standup routines. I enjoyed hearing about her life story, and I like her Christian attitude, her love for her family, and her candidness about her decisions, missed opportunities, pain from loss, and her weight and health struggles.

Although she suffered through some big disappointments, I’m thrilled she’s finally getting some long overdue recognition. Leanne, I hope you get that lake house, the pontoon… and the camper, too. I mean, why not? You earned it!

Overall, an interesting memoir. If Leanne wrote this without help- which I think she did- then she did a great job on it. Not only was it heartfelt, honest and very funny at times, it was organized into compartments that kept the material on topic and moving in chronological order. It flowed well and was hard to put down. If you enjoy Leanne’s comedy routines, be sure to add this book to your TBR list!

This book was pretty disappointing, the reviews were so great, but highly disappointing to me.
Way too much drama and repetition of the same stories and woe is me.
I thought maybe listening to the Audiobook would make it better, but not so much.
Yes, Chuck wasn’t the greatest emotional husband, but should never had been the butt of her jokes.
