I found this to be absolutely beautiful. I easily overlooked the manner in which she time-traveled: I honestly couldn't care less about the mechanics of how time travel is *achieved.* I care about the impetus for and implications of it, and this covered that. Moreso, it was a beautiful story of love and familial grief and longing for one another. There were definitely parts I super-skimmed through, trying to get to the parts I cared about most -- her interactions with her mom. This happened show more mostly toward the end. Still, I thought this was beautiful. And I found her husband believable, b/c I am married to someone just as wonderful, if not more. show less

Faye, Faraway by Helen Fisher is an emotional look at grief. It is also a book about faith and belief. The ending, when it comes, is not really a surprise. However, for me, it takes the book from an intellectual and emotional consideration of possibilities into an unrealistic science fiction realm. That being said, the longing for people gone and the pull of an opportunity of more time with them is one I and, I think, everyone will relate.

I absolutely loved this book! Just a perfectly delightful escapist method---just pick it right up and let Faye tell you what she is going through. I was so interested in the author's acknowledgements about how hard she tried to get this published---I'm just so glad she gave it one more try---and succeeded. Eddie was, yes, the perfect husband but she described him so that he came along with his own doubts and suspicions about this wife that he loved so much.Louis was a great addition, show more especially since the author is so familiar with working with people who are blind because of her other job as a research evaluator in the Royal National Institute of Blind People in England. It was just a delightful story and how could you not just love Faye??? show less
Faye lost her mother 30 years ago, and miraculously one night, travels back through time to meet her again, as a grown-up. The ensuing drama is engaging enough to keep the reader interested till the end. I liked that the author gives equal space to the emotional drama that unfolds simultaneous to the "time travel" one. It is thus a relationship story as well as a suspenseful science fiction or magical realism story. The drama of the relationships also extends to the one between Faye and her show more husband, Eddie, who is painted as just about the best husband ever. As such, Faye's "trips" home become a source of division and conflict for him and Faye.

I found there was a little too much exposition, introspection and "telling" rather than showing in the beginning third of the book. The action and drama picks up after that.
