A Strange Sound: A gentle, rhyming picture book about curiosity, kindness, and finding love (Olive’s World) by Olive Green
This is such a cute, heartwarming read! Y'all, it wasn't until I was an adult that I realized, sometimes family is people you find (or that find you), but that's exactly what's at the heart of this story. I do recommend taking your time while reading this, although the text on each page is fairly short, you'd be missing a lot if you didn't appreciate the accompanying illustrations. If you grew up on classic Disney movies like I did, they might even give you a sense of nostalgia. The story show more itself is fun to read, and it rhymes from start to finish. It's fun to try and figure out the answer to the mystery of the story as you read along, and the rhymes are perfect for younger readers. Absolutely recommend, and hope we get another book set in this magical world! show less

My child and I both enjoyed this playful but meaningful story with its silly and fantastic illustrations that enhanced and highlighted acceptance and inclusion. She liked it so much that we had to read it again right after the first time.

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This is a sweet book, with illustrations that feature complex and hidden images. I can imagine that a child would enjoy finding all the silly and surprising elements. The text, however, is disappointing; many of the rhymes are way off, and the meter doesn’t scan, and the arc of the character does not draw you in. In short, the beauty of language is not to be found here, and I cannot imagine a child asking for it to be reread.

This is such a fun story filled with and adorable illustrations! I loved the rhymes and accompanying illustrations. The illustration style reminded me of some of the older Disney movies, like Robin Hood, The Rescuers, etc. I loved those movies growing up, and it made me so sorry to reach the end of the book! There's so much going on visually in each page, I really recommend taking your time when reading to enjoy the pictures and everything going on in them. The story is all about friendship, show more inclusion, and sharing good food together. The rhymes make the story so much more fun, and it teaches kids not to judge others by appearances. It's a fun story that kids and adults alike are sure to enjoy. I do recommend checking out the free extras included on the author's website with your little one as well! show less
