Short work written for writers, producers and directors as they arrive to work in Hollywood's world of entertainment. The book is interesting for the outlook it purportedly provides on people who already work in the business. A few of the last chapters are hardly inspiring but they concern the inevitable ways in which the system will rob someone of their money or hard effort. The book was published in 1998 which was some time ago. Things have necessarily changed and who knows if the show more Hollywood Rules still apply as written here. The authors claim that the book's aim is to help people make it in Hollywood who actually want to create good films. The bottom line strategy is to find friends whom you can trust who are already successfully working in the industry. Then, use their contacts to help further your own career. The use of lawyers and agents are also covered. Probably the best general advice given by the anonymous authors is to look for patterns in the various ways in which rejection comes your way. Failure is a process to traverse through, never a terminal point. In other words, consult narrowly with others and then rework whatever it is you are producing to make it better or suffer debilitating rejection from the many notices you are bound to receive. show less
