I expected this to be mainly a history of the Eichmann trial, but it is much more personal than that. The book is written by the children of Gideon Hausner, the Israeli prosecutor at the trial, and it gives a rare view of the trial from inside his family home.

The authors show the Eichmann trial not only as a legal event, but as something that changed the way Holocaust survivors were heard. The first part of the book is especially powerful because it shows what it was like for the trial and show more its witnesses to enter the everyday life of the prosecutor’s family. The second part gives more legal and historical context and explains why the trial mattered far beyond the courtroom.

This is not a detached textbook-style history. It is more intimate than that. At the same time, it helped me better understand why the Eichmann trial became such an important moment in Holocaust memory, Israeli history, and international justice.

Some sections are heavier and more legal than others, but they add substance to the book. The strongest parts for me were the family memories and the sense of the enormous burden placed on Gideon Hausner.

A powerful and worthwhile read for anyone interested in Holocaust history, Israeli history, or the Eichmann trial from a more personal perspective.

When Eichmann Knocked on Our Door is a powerful and deeply human memoir that brings the Eichmann trial into sharp, intimate focus. Tamar Hausner‑Raveh and Amos Hausner reveal not only the historic pursuit of justice but the emotional weight carried by the families who lived through it. As a Jewish reader with relatives lost in the Holocaust, I found their reflections profoundly resonant—told with clarity, compassion, and a moral depth that stays with you long after the final page.
