This publication was assembled on the occasion of The Studio Museum of Harlem's exhibition Harlem Renaissance: Art of Black America. It includes 140 illustrations -- many of which are published here for the first time. The paintings and sculpture are complemented by the photographs of Janes Van Der Zee, the great documentary photographer of Harlem in the 1920s. Essays by Mary Schmidt Campbell, David Levering Lewis, and Deborah Willis Ryan bring the world of the Harlem Renaissance to life.
