Nancy Gordon’s debut chapbook Time Capsule is a quietly powerful exploration of the passage of time — in love, memory, nature and self. In just under sixty pages she moves effortlessly between formal poems (sonnets, a villanelle, a ghazal) and freer forms, yet the voice remains singular: thoughtful, grounded, and alive to the small pulses of life.

What I found most compelling was how she allows the everyday to carry weight: a dance becomes a memory of selves, a game of cards with Death show more strips away the usual fear to reveal something wry and human, and the Adirondack landscape becomes both cradle and witness to a life unfolding. In poems that address climate change, aging, lost friendship and art, Gordon resists either sentimentality or cold detachment — instead she invites us into a life lived with eyes open.

While some poems may reflect vantage points that feel later‑in‑life (Gordon begins from decades of experience), the clarity of feeling, the craft of form, and the emotional honesty make this collection accessible and rewarding. I especially appreciated the formal variety — each poem felt fresh and deliberate.

Time Capsule is a beautiful reminder that poetry needn’t shout to be heard, and that small moments carry lasting echo. I highly recommend it for any reader who wants poems that reflect on change, memory and the world we live in.

Truthfully, I'm a harsh critic when it comes to poetry, so I'll say to take my review with a grain of salt. I found the author's poetry to be full of emotional sincerity, solid imagery and metaphors, and interesting themes. However, she over explained a lot, and I also found myself finishing her poems and asking "Is that all?" The ending to many of her poems didn't feel complete. Furthermore, some of her poems' structure felt awkward, and I think this could've been rectified if a little more show more time had been spent in the drafting process. However, I will say that her poem, "Some Off Notes," was quite beautiful and deserves a read. show less

I enjoy poetry that can paint vivid pictures in your mind and these poems do that. It was easy to see exactly what Nancy was writing about, even in poems written in rhyme. A quick read that will bring a smile to your face.

This book is a collection of beautifully written and thought provoking poems. It’s a fairly quick and easy read, but well worth it! The flow is perfect. I love the eye-catching cover as well.
