Sword of the Raven is a story full of action, major emotional turmoil, myths, a variety of paranormal beings, humor and some pretty darn hot smexin!!!Delaney isn't just having one of those days, she's had one of those lives. Currently, her brother is in jail for something he didn't do and she is secretly investigating so she can prove his innocence. While investigating she wonders upon an unconscious NAKED SEXY HUNK of a man laying on a deserted bit of beach near the cottage she is staying show more in. Rowan awakes to find a beautiful woman trying to save him, he instantly realizes she is who he's been looking for, at the same time he realizes she makes him feel alive again and that to act on that passion will end in disaster because to meet his goal, he will have to betray her.Rowan knows a secret about Delaney that even she doesn't know, but when he fills her in on the secret it turns her world upside down and blows everything she's thought as real to smithereens. I fell in love with Rowan, such a strong, loyal man, determined to avenge his family. Maggie is an intriguing, strong heroine, one who had a hellish childhood, she is strong, funny and tough as nails. The attraction and affection between the two is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time, because there are HUGE obstacles they have to face, if they are to have a HEA, the biggest being they stay alive. There is A LOT going on in Sword of the Raven. Rowan is a Highlander, but from a different time, the battle that has to be fought is in the Abyss. Ms. Duncan does a wonderful job with the back story, Rowan tells it succinctly, I felt like I was sitting there listening to him, I didn't feel like I was reading a chunk of Scottish lore plunked in the middle of a romance. It did take me a little bit to get through the telling of the history of his family, but ONLY because I am not familiar with a lot of the Scottish lore and mythological species introduced in this book, but I was NEVER lost. The humor injected throughout the story kept me laughing, there were also moments that had me in tears and it's not often do I laugh as much as I cry in a book, but Ms. Duncan made me with SotR.To read the rest of my review visithttp://www.guiltypleasuresbookreviews.com/2011/11/review-sword-of-raven-by-diana-duncan.html show less
OH MY GOODNESS! Talk about action on New Years Eve at a shopping mall! I loved every thing about this book and how a bookworm and a cop had to work together to out smart the bank robbers and free their friends. I was so proud of Bailey who had been pampered all of her life by her stubborn attorney mom who gave her everything except love when her fireman dad died saving an entire family. I adored Connall for his determination to keep Bailey by his side only he couldn't fight her demons about show more his job and to keep her safe in the dark shopping mall. I am so glad that this is the first book in the series as I HUNGER FOR MORE!! show less
Warning you will laugh through most of this book. What a refreshing read. Cynthia Wagner is staying at a friends house in the 'burbs when her apartment in the city is getting renovations. She is under a deadline to get a new video game for work created.. Unfortunately the neighbor next door Rory Devlin is a hot distraction and the niece and nephews he is baby sitting keep getting in the way. The twin nephew boys get a sucker stuck in her hair, kill her laptop, and then a stink bomb is show more launched into the house she is staying at. Then she moves in with Rory and the insanity so she can continue to work on her deadline. There was so much humor in this book and watching Cyn and Rory fall in love was very sweet. There is alot more things that that the twins do - a psycho woman after Rory - meeting Rory's other 9 siblings who it looks like will get there own stories in the future. My first read by this author and I loved it. show less
Gut wrenching look at the effects of a childhood riffled with verbal abuse and tragedy and how that affected the hero Zane Wolfe.
Not many authors delve so deeply into the man side of the effects on childhood abuse. Usually those types of men are the psycho killers in a suspense novel. In Big Bad Wolfe the hero, FBI Special Agent Zane Wolfe takes on the toughest missions and nothing scares him until he finds out he is the father of a 5 year old boy. Then all of his childhood traumas come to show more the forefront that he’s never dealt with.
Assistant director of a school for disadvantaged children Jillian Ramsay has temporary guardianship of her best friend’s son after she mysterious dies. When his maternal uncle and his wife decide they want to fight Jillian for custody she decides to call in his unknowing father to come help her get custody to prevent his cruel uncle from getting custody.
Even though Zane is plenty alpha when it comes to his job he is brought to his knees with the knowledge he has a son. He wants nothing to do with his son for fear of that the sins of his father are inside of him and it would be in his son’s best interest if he didn’t take on the role of Daddy. But when strange hang ups and vandalism befall Jillian and he meets the Uncle he decides he will stay long enough to make sure everything works out.
Zane brings in his old friend Dallas and his wife Mia (from Laws of Attraction – which was great to see how they were doing) to help. But the driving force of this book was the healing of Zane Wolfe. There were so many great scenes between Jillian and Zane. Jillian was a very tough intuitive woman who is the backbone of this book. It wasn’t all sorrow though there was plenty of suspense, sexy moments and also a dash of the author’s signature humor.
I always enjoy a Diana Duncan novel and this one was no exception. show less
