"Twenty-Five Sanitary Inspectors",must win the prize for the most unusual title for a crime novel extant.
The story concerns murder,arson and sabotage on the small island of San Rocco.A retired police Superintendent is employed by a rich resident to try to find the culprit and stop these crimes which are harming the tourist trade.As there is no police force on the island as such,the Superintendent has to recruit his assistants from a body of out-of-work Sanitary Inspectors. The results,as you show more might imagine are far from satisfactory.
This book is one of a 12 book series - "The Disappearing Detectives"- and brings back some of the forgotten' greats' of the past. show less
