I LOVED this story. The blend of humour and drama was beautifully done, and the relationship between CJ and Stella was really enjoyable. This was the first crime book I had read by this author (having only read the amazing 'Smilodon' trilogy before) and I am eager to read more.

Incorporated into the storyline is a great (and at times amusing) introduction to culture and locations in my own fair country of New Zealand, and the storyline showed how much research the author did into this aspect show more of the story.

Wonderfully written, this is a great all-round story that really could be read by any age. Although set around a murder, there is nothing too graphic in it that would make me not want my teenager to pick it up. Awesome read!

It is never easy to decide whether to give only the first book of a series a chance, or put faith in the whole 'boxed set'. For this story, I took the opportunity to read all three books in one go, and I am glad that I did. The three stories flowed from one to the next so flawlessly that I felt like I was definitely reading one long story, rather than three individual books. This is a substantial read, and so a welcome change from the many shorter stories that are available to us as readers. show more Instead of being a quick read, this is a story that is easy to become completely wrapped up in without having any wish to put it down. The depth of language provided easy transformation of words into imagery - so much so that I almost felt like I was watching a movie in my head, rather than reading a book. It has a little of everything in it - historical science, a sliver of desire, and a sound depiction of family dynamics (including a somewhat rebellious teenager!). But overall, once this story gets going I personally would place it squarely in the realm of suspense and action. Suspense due to the aspect of not foreseeing what was going to happen next, but also action because there are a fair few men running around with military weapons, with full intention of hunting down and eliminating anyone who is a threat. Well worth the hours of reading. show less
A struggling freelance journalist is hired to write up the story of a secret project in a Montana compound. What he discovers is a DNA lab that has brought sabre-toothed cats back from extinction, but this is only the tip of a secret corporate project with severe ethical implications. This story is tense and definitely not for the squeamish and faint-hearted in some sections, but it definitely kept me enthralled.
A story to keep you on the edge of your seat. A young girl witnesses a murder by the son of a wealthy man who wants the girl out of the way all costs. The book takes you from the mountains to Florida . Well done.
