Don't Just Stand There...Pray Something!: Discover the Incredible Power of Intercessory Prayer by Ronald Dunn
A book about prayer, basically. Sound, fairly interesting, with some good anecdotes. Quite encouraging; if nothing new, it was a useful reminder of how important it is to pray for our loved ones and situations in general.
I felt it went a little downhill at the end with a chapter about Revival which didn't really say much, and somewhat contradicted itself. I then found the appendices, about setting up a 'prayer ministry' so overwhelmingly complex and structured that I mentally and show more emotionally backed off!
Somehow the writing style made it feel like an early 1980s book, although to my surprise it was first published in 1991. Not that it's a topic that dates, particularly, other than the appendixes where the author recommended, among other things, a 'rolodex' - I had to Google to find out what one of those was.
On re-reading just three years later I found it quite inspiring and helpful although, once again, I found the appendices daunting in their detail.
Recommended to anyone wanting an in-depth look at prayer. The author addresses some tricky questions that are often asked about prayer, with a clear and friendly style, concluding that while God does not need us to pray, he undoubtedly uses prayer. show less

Ronald Dunn's personal experiences of tragedy and depression are woven into his detailed studies of Jacob's wrestling with the angel, Job's catalogue of sufferings and King David's disappointments. He assures readers that such periods of difficulty are inevitable in our lives, but even though we flee God in these times he will not abandon us.
This book "Don,t just stand there pray something" by Ronald Dunn is a rare insight into the forgotten prayer life of the intercessors. In it he describes what beauty and depth a believer has when he goes boldly to the throne and pleads on someone else,s behalf.
An accessible, thorough, and encouraging introduction to Christian prayer.
