Charles F. Stanley (1932–2023)

In Man of God Stanley challenges men to step up and the the leaders that God calls them to be. The issue with the book isn't that it isn't good content but the lackadaisical approach to really delivering the great message that is there. If this were a coach rallying his team the best he could hope for was mediocre.

A challenging and encouraging devotional. I don't always agree with everything Charles Stanley says, but his devotions make me think and encourage me to be more faithful in my walk with Christ.

I've read or studied several books on prayers over the years, but this book by Charles Stanley may be my favorite. Stanley provides practical insights and tips on how Christians should pray and insights from his years of approaching God's throne. He reminds Christians of the importance of communication with God and of the power of prayer when done with boldness. I highly recommend this as a devotional study. It's one I'm certain to re-read.

I personally enjoyed reading this book (Disclaimer: I'm a huge Dr. Stanley fan), but I can see how others might find it dry in places. Dr. Stanley cuts to the chase and lays it out how it is: there are no shortcuts around suffering , sin affects everyone it touches, everything God does has a purpose and eternal value, for example. Those looking for a touchy-feely book would walk away unsatisfied. Those who want the truth, regardless of how it's delivered, would enjoy this book.
