This slender paperback, published in 1990, contains good photographs of various versions of the Soviet Mil Mi-24 assault helicopter (NATO code name 'Hind', though usually known to its crews as 'Krokodil'). Pictures are mainly in black-and-white, of export versions, and of varying quality (early versions of the Mi-24 pre-date glasnost and so are not much advanced from the traditional Soviet 'blurred aircraft' picture).

Terminology and sub-type designations are also based on the best show more information available in the West at the time, so there are issues of accuracy, especially over what were then some of the newer sub-types coming into service. This book was probably a good source in its day, but has since been totally outclassed by works originating from Russian writers such as Yefim Gordon and Dmitri Komissarov. show less

Solid book on a subject not particularly easy to research, namely, 1930s Russian aircraft.

Good intro, plenty of pictures of the various national air forces that made up the WPAFs.
