The Bible doesn't say don't be angry. It says, "Be Angry but do not sin." And Jesus got angry quite a bit. Sarah Sumner probes Scripture and discusses how Jesus models godly anger for us. She also talks through other theological topics (like hell and the wrath of God). She demonstrates that learning to handle our anger well is a part of what it means to be formed in the image of Jesus and a source of healing.

Sumner pairs here biblical/theological reflections with parts of her own story. Her show more anger at her parents divorce and her failure to 'get angry.' Instead she developed an addiction eating disorder to mitigate the pain and feel in control. Her own experience of healing and freedom came as she learned to express anger for real wrongs and work through issues.

There are a lot of rich reflections here. I really appreciate Sumner's observation about how sometimes the lack of anger at injustice is symptomatic of our complicity.

This book leans more on the liberal side of the women in the church debate. If you are a serious student of gender in the church, I highly recommend. I didn't agree with everything Sumner had to say, but I appreciate her view point and I think it's important to explore the "other" side if you are to understand yourself better. I also think she made some excellent points.
