I had mixed feelings about this book. I did not like the book because the illustrations do not enhance anything. This book contains multiple poems, ideas for the classroom that go with the poem, and illustrations for the poem. Each poem contains an illustration that goes with the mood, or theme, of the poem. However, there is not any color, and, therefore, loses my interest. For example, the poem, "Pumpkin Pie Time" describes the process of baking a pie. To support the poem, there is an show more illustration next displaying a boy and his process in baking a pumpkin pie. The boy and the pie are just black and white outlines as if it was a blank coloring page. I did like this book because the writing is organized. Each poem is followed by pictures and how to use the poem, which can be significantly helpful in the classroom. The big idea of this book is to assist in teaching phonics. This book is geared more towards teachers; however, the poems, illustrations, and activities support students. show less
