"Clandestine", by Denise A. Agnew, is a terrific paranormal romantic suspense adventure, featuring an awesome Alpha hero! As a top agent for the SIA (Special Investigations Agency), Grey O'Toole is tough, buff and "rough around the edges". He has only one weakness--the woman whose voice has driven him wild for ten years. Dorcas "Dorky" Shannigan is the information operative who keeps the SIA informed about dangerous paranormal forces. She and Grey have always had a great phone friendship, show more and through the years a deep personal bond has formed. When they finally meet in person, their physical attraction is hot enough to almost incinerate the SIA building! Grey and Dorky soon find themselves on the run and on mission of vital importance to world security. Dorky has many hidden secrets, and she fears that Grey may turn away from her once all is revealed. Grey's painful childhood made him into a "no commitment" kind of guy, but Dorky's combination of strength, vulnerability, and beauty has him turned inside out. He follows her into a world unlike anything he has ever experienced, trying to comprehend that Dorky comes from this strange world. It will take all of his superior skill as an agent to keep himself and the woman he loves safe from the overwhelming evil of the villainous paranormal force. Dorky gives her heart and her complete trust to Grey, sharing more of herself than she has ever given to anyone. Who could resist a six-foot-three auburn-haired Alpha hunk with expressive grey eyes? Not me--I surrender!!! show less
This was a hot, exciting little read. Mary Wickes has some issues and doesn’t want to get involved with a cop, least of all Dace “Hard Man” Banovic, even though he’s sex on a stick and she’s been dying for a lick for six months. Dace has been equally attracted to Mary, but it takes news that she’s leaving town for him to finally start invading her space.
When Mary’s taken hostage and Dace’s S.W.A.T. team is called in to negotiate, they both realize that life is too short not show more to explore what they could have and they spend a passionate night together. Unfortunately, Mary wakes up the next morning with regrets, reminded that she’s got a rule about not dating cops.
For the purpose of the shorter story, I get that there needed to be a series of urgent conflicts to push the relationship along and to force Mary into making decisions faster than if she’d have been left to make them in her own time. I think Dace let Mary off the hook far too easily too often; she let events carry her when I wish she’d actually thought about things and grown up a little. I would have happily sacrificed the last conflict for a little soul-searching on her part.
Still, Dace was hot enough and mature enough and did I mention hot enough, that this was a speedy, fun read. This is part of the four book Heart of Justice series, which also includes Within His Embrace, Under His Protection, and In Her Defense. show less

This is one of those "guilty pleasure" books. The ones that whilst they are not exactly the best written, and whilst the characters could have been better developed, you cannot help find yourself immersed in and enjoying. I was reading it more for the earthquake than the romance, however, and the fact that the earthquake did not occur until about 3/4s of the way through the story was a bit disappointing, but I did find that last bit rather gripping, although more could have been made of the show more tragedy and the death - I felt like I was being told about it, rather than shown. Having recently experienced a lot of earthquakes myself, including several major ones, I would have to say that even our worst could not compare to that San Francisco one.
As for Grace... While her attraction to Nate was the main point of the plot, she did come across as rather a foolish young lady, who was perhaps both a bit of a tease and also given far, far too much freedom. She's lucky her father did not ship her off to a convent or something! As it was, I did like Nate. I guess I've got a little bit of a crush on the whole "black irish" thing. And the sex scene was pretty sexy. So yes, a quick and enjoyable read, but not one that would stand up to heavy analysis. show less

I really liked this because I can relate. The whole being in love with a man who is deployed fits my current situation. I think my favorite part about this is how relate-able it is. Sean is mentioned being a geek, a computer nerd, well I refer to my husband that way. So the whole time I keep thinking it was me and him in the story. Well sort of. Most books I supply a dreamed up stud. But in this case I got to use my own. :P So that's one of the major reasons why I really liked this. I wasn't show more sure about the beginning because it was his letter said this... (paragraph of Eve's thoughts..) My letter in response was this.. It was different. I don't have anything good or bad really to say about it. Just that it was different.
I would recommend this for sure, for anyone who isn't afraid of erotica, and understands what it's like to go weeks with out hearing from your man not knowing when you'll hear from him next, or even when he's coming home. For a kindle freebie, I was very happy. It's just the pick me up a woman can need during her husbands deployment. show less
