This is a very good overview of literature in the Victorian Age. Often stereotyped as a sexually repressed, uptight bourgeois (they kind of were), the Victorians were actually actively trying to work through a lot of stuff. Their world was changing rapidly (sound familiar?) and they were attempting to meet its challenges. It's a good primer if one is delving into the classic Victorian novels.
