Parliament and Politics in the Age of Churchill and Attlee: The Headlam Diaries 1935-1951 (Camden Fifth Series) by Cuthbert Headlam
The diary of a member of Parliament faithfully kept during most of the period covered. Headlam does not appear a likeable sort, much cavilling about how he could have done so much more in politics if he had only had the money. The diaries are enlightening in that they expose the inner workings of the Conservative Party, especially the process of selecting candidates to run for Parliament. Headlam's usually pithy comments about famous contemporaries with whom he came in contact are show more fascinating and often entertaining. show less
