Thoughtful, poignant, honest. Just the way Jack Falla always wrote. Falla recounts family moments on the ice and the stars of the Montreal Canadians with the same thoughtfulness and tenderness. This is a book that will be truly appreciated by those who grew up on the skating pond or the hockey rink.
I am not a reviewer. It is not what I use Librarything for. But for this book I am making an exception. Jack Falla is an American who grew up in Boston watching the Bruins and no Canadian I have met or whose writings I've read has anything on Jack for his love of Hockey.
He writes beautifully, and the chapter on Hobey Baker is just wonderful.
There are other essays on George Vezina, Rocket Richard, Rink Rats, skating in Ottawa, and back yard hockey rinks. If you like hockey, Jack Falla walks show more you through some of the greats of hockey and I expect you will like this book and learn still learn something. If you don't like hockey I would still recommend the chapter on Hobey Baker.
It is about Hockey but it is also about family, mortality, getting old and recognizing your place in this world. show less
