Louise is overjoyed. She is about to become a big sister! But, when Max is born early, he has to stay in the hospital a while longer in a ‘big plastic box’. Louise dreams up ways to bring him home and sends her parents off to the hospital with pictures of her ideas.

Finally! One of the drawings work! Max comes home…he’s healthy, growing, and filling the family with love.

A beautifully illustrated picture book that gently explains why some babies need extra care before they come home to show more the family. Just perfect for a family going through some tense times…but, really a book for everyone to ask questions and gain some knowledge.

Thank you to LibraryThing Early Reviewers, The Collective Book Studio, Emily Rosen and Esther Diana for this ARC.

When I was little, my brother had to go to the hospital for a short while. I remember my mother bringing home the book, Curious George Goes to the Hospital, and reading it with me. This book, Waiting for Max: A NICU Story, brought back those memories. It is written from the perspective of the big sister who is anxiously waiting for her baby brother to come home! She uses stories and pictures as a way to encourage her brother to come home soon.
The story addresses a few of the realities of a show more NICU stay in a gentle way without the heaviness or medical terms. It addresses her parents coming home without the baby and leaving each day to go back to the hospital as well as pictures of the baby in an incubator and having tubes. The storyline and pictures are sweet and assuring. It's a great book for families and friends with young children in a similar situation or education purposes. show less

This is an excellent and cute story of a girl waiting for her baby brother to come home from the hospital. The baby was premature and had to spend time in the NICU. A great story and excellently illustrated.
