How can I not love any book about a fox girl who lives in a burrow with her fox friend, a huge pile of books, and the gems she has collected while on holiday? This is the Enchantimals book where Patter and Flap, the peacock enchantimals, first come to Wonderwood. It's pretty dark, they are living their lives, and then there is a huge storm, their house is demolished, and they fall in a river and are swept away from everyone they know. The main theme of the book is how you act as a good show more friend and welcome the stranger (even as they bumble around destroying your stuff), and the conflict comes between Patter, who is charmed by her new friends and the exciting new world, and Flap, who hates the change and wants to go home. Like all primary school fiction, this is wrapped up in a very cosy but unrealistic way - Flap gets sad and runs away, but then realises that his home is where Patter is, and so he goes back to Wonderwood and they build him a special house which he loves, and agrees to stay. show less
