The Book of World Records was always a favorite during school book fairs. I remember students always surrounding multiple copies of the book trying to find the next fastest car, top earning singer, biggest monster truck, or fastest roller coaster. I like these books because I feel like they are a way for a child to set goals for the future. If a child likes to sing, he may read this book and think that he wants to be so successful in the music industry that he wants to beat out Paul show more McCartney for being the top earning male singer in 2005. Another student may want be the C.E.O. of her own department store chain and wish to someday make more than $20 billion dollars to beat out Alice Walton as the richest woman in the world. These books are filled with interesting, albeit mostly useless, facts that can help students think about who they want to be in the future. show less

I have to say that this book was equally intriguing to both myself and my nine-year old son. Whatever your age, if you're a fan of facts, figures, and obscure knowledge such as the world's most deadly amphibian or the world's richest woman, the SCHOLASTIC BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS 2007 is most definitely the book for you!

This book has something for everyone of every age. From the longest fingernails to the strongest man, from the smallest waist to the logest freethrow shot. It has some kind of interesting factoid for even the uninterested reader.

We could use this book in our classroom to consider the proababilities that anyone would break the record, or the reasoning behind the record at all. We could brainstorm and come up with some new world records that we might be able to obtain.

The SCHOLASTIC BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS is back, this time with new and updated records for 2008.

This interesting and resourceful reference guide is divided into seven main categories:

Sports Records
Human-Made Records
Nature Records
Popular Culture Records
Money and Business Records
Science Records
U.S. Records

Filled with both interesting (the world's fastest land bird -- the ostrich) and obscure (the country that drinks the most bottled water -- Italy), there's show more something here for everyone.

This would make a great addition for home or school libraries. Highly recommended!
