- James a member of the United Brethren in Christ. He studied with H. N. Barttelb, Horatio R. Palmer, and F. W. Root, and at the Grand Conservatory of Music in New York. He taught at Shenandoah University, Winchester, Virginia. Taught Singing Schools and Normals for over 50 years and has written many songs.
