The Soft Kill is an interesting premise, bio-engineering for population control in a "Prisoner" -esque setting. But, the writing just fell flat for me. It read like a TV drama; not much back story and not character driven at all. The whole story was almost all action sequences, and I had trouble following what was happening because Free doesn't describe inner-monologue or motives. Things just sort of happen. The story was also uncomfortably racist and misogynistic. After learning that Colin show more Free was really a writer of screenplays, I can understand why the novel seemed more like a television episode. show less
