Short historical sketch of Gutenberg's life and the theories around his printing. Ing deals with lack of data, contrasting data, and current research to give as full account as possible of Gutenberg and his role in the production of B42. She does not speculate but presents the evidence clearly. The short book deals with his life, his rivals, the Bible (B42) itself, including technical details of paper, ink, and distribution.
The complex and fascinatingly detailed tale of a 1919 book auction and the "ring" of booksellers who bought the books.
Don't know about a second copy. Evidently, I borrowed that one. Ing explores the scholarship in her study of Gutenberg, quite thorough in my experience, which is admitted to be very limited. I have lived with considerable awe regarding Gutenberg and his bible. Brings to mind A. E. Newton.
