Gender and Poverty in Nineteenth-Century Europe (New Approaches to European History) by Rachel G. Fuchs
This was a very interesting book. Fuchs comments that the 'climate of calamities' caused the men and women in poverty to survive. The lengths that women (and briefly men) had to go through to ensure the family survival are truly eye-opening. Also, the conditions and lifestyles mimic the 21st century too. History doesn't truly change.
