1934. A novel about living in the dunes in an old abandoned salt factory. They used to have to extract the salt from the ocean somehow. Everyone is bohemian, artists, writers, sculptors, theatre people, gay, or bootleggers. The main character is a woman who sleeps with two men off and on all summer, then they leave and she’s quite happy to be alone. Seems very liberated for the thirties. The language is delicious and original. It was a delight. I had to savor every page.
