About meI have been spending way too much time cataloging my book collection on here and not enough time reading. I've only read about a quarter of the books in the house. Arg!

Update: I moved to NYC. I had to get rid of at least half my books, so this catalog no longer reflects what I currently have.

About my libraryWhat I like to read about:

1. New York: Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Coney Island, Staten Island, Subways, The Village, book stores in, the Lower East Side, Hell's Kitchen, Harlem, Central Park, gays and lesbians in, blacks in, Jews in, gangs in, prostitutes in.
i.e. Harlan Ellison, Tennessee Williams, Daniel Fuchs, Sol Yurick, Frank Packard, Irving Shulman, Evan Hunter, Betty Smith, Gerald Green, Shane Stevens, Ernest Tidyman (Shaft books).

2. Boston, Cape Cod, Maine, especially shippy old books & whaling

3. Jews

4. lesbians, especially pre-stonewall era

5. blacks

6. Catholics, saints, miracles, apparitions

7. gangs before about 1980

8. juvenile delinquents

9. drugs, junkies, heroin

10. prostitution, pimps, strippers

11. gay men pre-stonewall era

12. jazz

13. pre-war London, England

14. Monaco and Monte Carlo

15. contemporary Tokyo

16. gambling, horse and dog tracks, bookies

17. spies

18. baseball

19. Fiction set at the time of the crucifixion or shortly thereafter about Christians in ancient Rome or Jerusalem.
i.e. Ben Hur, Quo Vadis.

20. any combination of the above is especially good

21. Mostly not newer than 1979 (pub. date) or at least set thereabouts or before.
i.e. 70s, 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s, earlier.
