"The Equal Rhymes Amendment" tries to do what the title implies - to amend nursery rhymes so they offer a more equitable outlook to children. The old, familiar rhymes are still there - just modified somewhat, or an extra verse or two added. The illustrations feature lots of rainbows, along with children from every race, ability and disability. Combined together, the illustrations and rhymes offer parents a new perspective on old rhymes, and who knows, they may become the rhymes our children show more and grandchildren remember. show less
Great for all elementary grade levels! Young children will love hearing the rhymes as well as seeing the colorful illustrations on every page. Older children will enjoy the expansions on the traditional nursery rhymes they've grown up with. This book is a compilation of traditional nursery rhymes with non-gender-biased expansions on each. The author wrote these expansions in hopes of shining light on equality for men and women alike. Use for reading aloud to younger students and have them show more draw their own pictures. Have older students choose their favorite traditional nursery rhyme and write their own expansions. Also great for plays. show less
