When Grandpa's teeth - handmade by Swiss craftsmen, and very, very expensive - go missing, nothing that his family, police Officer Rate, or the townspeople do seems of much help in locating them. Even an appearance on the television show Unsolved Crimes fails to turn up any leads! Sadly, this nefarious crime soon has the entire town in an uproar, as citizens begin to lock their doors, suspect one another, and (worst of all) relentlessly smile, in order to demonstrate that their teeth are all show more their own. Those manically grinning faces are hard to maintain, and also start to scare the tourists away, and soon a town meeting must be called...

The solution to the crisis (and to the crime) are really quite amusing - children will get a kick out of the droll illustrations, and quirky storyline in Grandpa's Teeth. Missing teeth and suspicious smiles, oh no! The idea that smiling all the time is actually not such a good thing - something with which I agree wholeheartedly, as I think sometimes we get obsessed with a showy kind of 'niceness' these days, disregarding the need for genuine emotional expression - is very welcome, and flawlessly delivered in a story that will have kids giggling. I can just imagine a storyteller reading Grandpa's lisping lines, and getting quite a reaction from the audience! Recommended to anyone looking for humorous stories for younger children. show less

This story follows Amanda on a ordinary day where she flies down to breakfast and goes to school in a castle. Her ride is a dinosaur of an old lady and her librarian is a pirate. School lunch is five-star cuisine and the ride home on a elephant is quite the trip. All in all, this is a story of Amanda and what a vivid imagination she has on a ordinary day.

I love this book. If you read it without looking at the pictures, it sounds ordinary and boring. But after viewing the illustrations, it is show more anything but. I love the underlying theme of letting you imagination take you wherever you want to go. This is a great read, no matter what age level.

This would make for a good lesson on hyperboles such as “old as a dinosaur.” Students could draw some of their own hyperboles or things that their imagination leads them to believe that are a bit of an exaggeration. They could also make some clays figures that represent what they do in their ‘ordinary day.’ show less

I had never heard of this book before and I'm very surprised because it was fantastic. It was fun to read because of the Grandpa's speech impediment due to his missing teeth. The turn of events that follow the family's initial panic is genuinely funny even to a jaded 20 year old.
