Hidden Guilt book #1

This is the kind of page-turner thriller I love to pass my time with. It pulls you in from the start and never let’s go. Some even say this story is in the tradition of James Patterson., it may be so but Mr. Keys has his own style and as a first time reader of his, I definitely could say he has penned a very captivating story peppered with twists and turns and provided us with suspense galore to satisfy the most committed thrill seekers. What a drama he gave us. The show more characters are realistic and well- developed. The prose makes everything flow smoothly and in a logical manner.

There is nothing complicated in what is said, so I let myself be transported into the world of Detective David Porter as he come to face the harsh reality that a loved one is missing. As a Detective is primary task is chasing a cunning serial killer who brutally murders every child he could get his hands on. So his skills are put to test in this fast-paced cat and mouse game. But the killer was an expert....

I love this story but leaving us hanging at the end so we buy the sequel is something that annoys me to no end....

According to Guns and America’s May 2019 report based on statistics from the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s K-12 School Shooting Database, 77 is the average number of days between school shootings and it is decreasing. 2018 tied with 2012 as one of the two deadliest years where 29 people were killed.

Mr. Keys’ tragic and frightening story about Blaze’s life spiraling out of control is a glimpse into the mind of a high school shooter leading up to a mass shooting in Texas. show more It also includes the hard truths of why didn’t anyone help him before it was too late be it fear or guilt, peer pressure or ignorance.

The characters and events are very realistic. Blake’s despair is heartbreaking and watching his life get even more dire as time passes is hard to read, but regrettably, this could happen to anyone.

The author has done his research thoroughly. At the end of the book he lists questions, links, and suggests ways to help someone you may think needs help.

Overall, this is a terrifying book to read because it tackles the harshness of reality that hits close to home for many of us. Take action. Read this book and heed the signs of people around you. You may just prevent another tragedy from happening.

Thank you to Ms. Keys for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

I'm disappointed with DEATH TOLL RISING by Terry Keys. This fictional account between the U.S. alphabet agencies and a militant Muslim group hell-bent on destroying the Leaders of the World who have come to the U.S. for a religious meeting leaves little credibility to what might actually happen. The story lags in spots and then typos and formatting issues plagued it from the very beginning to the end interrupting the flow and expected anxiety. The ending also left it wide open for the next show more installment as all that took place was not resolved and left readers hanging. show less
Oh goodness, it is sad that children feel the need to bully others, what in the world is going on? Do we feel the hate and need to destroy others or is it the games that are ruining us? My heart broke as Blaze cried out for help but it was too late as he had been bullied for years and then his dad cheated on his mom and they divorced. His dad was man that he looked up to and he even liked some of the activities that he never thought he would. Blaze was into booze and drugs and parties with show more no curfew, had a far too loose lifestyle that his mom did not control as I certainly would not let my teenager go on a weekend outing without supervision. It was a shame that many lives were cut off. show less
