Good mix of theatrical anecdote and colonial history. Insight into how dreary the life of the Raj was, especially for the women and the common British soldiers.Boredom & claustrophobia resembling a prison sentence. Strange imitation of the caste system.Catholicism and "touch of the tar brush" both hidden behind a gradual rise into the professional middle class. The "unspoken", not like the Jewish thread in my family.
just brilliant if you like genealogy
