I will have to, at some point, probably come back and write a comprehensive review of this text. What I'm offering here are my first impressions and, not to put too fine a point on it, this is perhaps the FINEST literary-theological reading of Jeremiah I've yet come across. And, believe me, edging out J.G. McConville's "Judgment and Promise" is no small trick, but I really think Stulman does precisely that.

I still laugh at the thought that I may one day soon be considered something of an show more "expert" in Jeremiah studies (if I can ever get this doctoral thesis finished...lol) and may have to face that dreaded query: "If I wanted to get a good understanding of the gist of the book of Jeremiah, what one book would you recommend?" (Not the best question to ask someone who's just spent several years reading HUNDREDS of books on Jeremiah, when you think about it.)

However, now, if someone were so kind (or foolish) to toss that inquiry my way, I think I've found an answer: this book. He "gets" Jeremiah. What's more, he EXPLAINS Jeremiah in a way that actually matters to your faith. And, that, my friend, is an achievement worthy of all 5 stars.
