Some books help you remember that it is possible to make a book about an interesting subject boring. This is one of them. The lives of these women are in themselves interesting; their work is interesting. The writing is not, and the fact that the author focuses more on the men that interacted with them is maddening. I realize there may not be much information available; so shorten the damn chapters and add more women. Is that so hard? And learn to write interesting prose. She not only gives show more details about the men they interacted with, but spends time on men they MAY have interacted with because they are contemporaries who at some point during the life of the women happened to go to France. I couldn't finish it. show less
