3518. Public Defender, by Gerald W. Getty and James Presley (read 3 Jan 2002) This is a 1974 book by the Chief Public Defender for Cook County, Ill., from 1954 to 1972. He writes a simple, non-directed-at-lawyers, book. His 'biggest' case was the Richard Spence 8-nurse murder, and his account of that takes nearly a third of the book. I found this a surprisingly interesting book to read, making well the need for the Sixth Amendment right to counsel to be a meaningful one.
