The stages of the Beaufort wind scale, portrayed with precision and also with poetic free verse, style, and imagination. It will stretch readers' imaginations as we see the wind pick up from a kiss of air, to a gentle breeze that shivers the shifting grasses, to a roiling hurricane that makes tree roots shudder.
A simple, well-illustrated story of an otter growing up. The story flows well with good word choice, strong verbs and nice use of adjectives. Some action and excitement woven in, but nothing a small child couldn't handle. I'm always glad when an author chooses not to "kill off" a parent animal in the book.
This poetry book follows the main character as she describes the wind surrounding her in the world. As the story develops, her hometown encounters a large storm that damages some of the environment around her. At the end of the book, she describes how the wind does what it wants, and there is no way we can control the world around us.
This book would be great for 2nd-3rd grade
This book was all about the wind and how the soft wind turned into a hurricane. This book gives details about how wind impacts our lives.
I would use this book in a poetry unit or when talking about imagery, because this book is full of it!
