As an avid Spider-Man fan, I experienced a little rush of joy at finding this Novel lounging on the shelf at the library.
Once I began, I was happier that I picked it up. I usually have a law against reading things out of order, but it seems I will always make an exception for Marvel.
As always, I was not disappointed. May "Mayday" Parker is the daughter of Peter Parker, the original Amazing Spider-Man. She inherited her father's superpowers and kept the family legacy going by becoming show more Spider-Girl. I can't help but think that May and her father have a lot more in common than they would probably think.
This collection emitted the feeling of the Spider-Man 2 movie, or for those who only refer to Spider-Man comics: the issue of The Amazing Spider-Man entitled Spider-Man No More where Peter Parker loses his spidey powers and decides to give up being Spider-Man. However, unlike her father, when May loses her powers, she refuses to give up crime fighting and instead enlists the help of Normie Osborn--former Green Goblin--to help adjust her crime fighting style.
I rather enjoyed the little quirks this book provided. I was in hysterics over the fact that Spider-Girl would use a Goblin Glider! The "costumed characters" are extremely entertaining and I love their outfits!! Raptor was really cool! Although now, I'm starting to wonder what Mr. Stark is really planning and what his motives are. Also, it has occurred to me that some things never really change, such as J. Jonah Jameson.
I am now on a quest to find the other Spider-Girl collections, so I can figure out where it all starts and where it all will go. I have so many questions!! What is Mr. Stark planning? What are his motives? Who was the other Spider-Man? Who is his Mom and where do the two of them fit into place? Who is the black guy in the costume with no name? Why is he suddenly under the hire of Mr. Stark? Hmm....all these questions and more PROBABLY answered in the next exciting installment of....Spider-Girl!!!

I'm treating myself to a little Carnage. I kept seeing it around in bookstores back in the day and more recently here on GR and I even though I was insanely curious, I can't believe I never got around to it.
The good: Most of it! I really enjoyed how bats**t insane Carnage is and how he polarized past villains into helping out as heroes to stop the pure chaos he represented... or gathering them together to get the blood flowing. And it was pretty over-the-top. Shriek pulled in the insane from show more Carnage and gave it to the streets of New York, boiling blood everywhere, while Carnage did whatever Carnage wanted. Which was pretty damn random.
And all the while, Spidey teamed up with Venom and the big theme here was maybe overdone but not out-of-place. When is too much, too much? Is it sometimes valid to aim for an outright killing? We know Venom believes this, but then, there's Spidey. He's our conscience. When HE agrees with Venom, you know it's really bad.
I pretty much dug every little thing about this comic until ONE LITTLE TWIST. And then I was like... OHHH COME OOOONNNNNNNN.
Ignoring that. That one little hail-mary.
And I'm NOT talking about Captain America coming to the rescue fairly early on. Or Dagger.
That last one little thing was so outrageously meh that I wanted to tear up the funnies. But I didn't. I figure it would have taken an issue or two more to prepare THAT right, instead of as a, "oh, by the way" fix. *grrrr*
OKAY, ignoring that BAD, the rest was pretty awesome and I am very glad I read it. :) Classic Spidey. show less

I liked how this links up a couple different titles, Teen Titans, Legion of Superheroes, Superboy, and Ravagers, but it looks like 16 issues is all they got. Now I'm wondering what's going to happen with Harvest and his "diabolical" plans. Hopefully it's wrapped up on Ravagers because I'm not reading Superboy or Legion of Superheroes.
This got a little convoluted in the end with the time travel stuff, but overall it was a cool arc with some decent characters.

A good set of stories, relating the history of the black costume, right after Secret Wars. One of the things that is so likable about Spiderman (Peter Parker), is that the great Spiderman comics are about Peter Parker, with Spiderman playing a feature role. He seems real because he has real problems, that being a superhero haven't solved, just complicated.
