Over a quarter of a century after its publication, this is still a very attractive, well presented and informative book. That's why I didn't realize how old it was when I picked it up! A lot of the up-to-date-1995 information on the space stations of the day is seriously outdated but of historical interest. The chapter on Our Future In Space is interestingly science fictional. I'm keeping it around for awhile to see if it grows on us.
A fun colorful and informative introduction to space, space travel, stars, and the solar system. I looked at with my 2 and 4 year olds. Although the text was way above their level, the pictures and illustrations were great conversation starters. I then followed up with reading the easy reader Fancy Nancy Sees Stars as the bedtime story. They enjoyed the theme.
Young readers interested in exploring space will find answers to many of their questions in the pages of this informative space science book. Full-color photographs, drawings, and diagrams accompany the text on each double-page spread.

Topics include Exploring Space, Into Space and Home Again, Rockets, Space Shuttles, Space Stations, Living in Space, Working in Space, Space Suits and Space Walks, Manmade Satellites, Satellites at Work, Space Explorers, Man on the moon, and Mars and the show more Future. A Fact File provides an overview of Space History, the Apollo Moon Program, Space Rubbish, Animals in Space, and Exploring the Planets.

The target audience for this book, part of the Exploring the Universe series, is the young reader, ages eight through ten, grades three and four. Designed to provide an overview of a topic, each double-page entry focuses on one segment of space science. The narrative is age/grade appropriate and provides information on astronomy and space exploration supported visually.

Highly recommended, especially for young readers interested in space exploration.
