Documents that the Catholic Church's Index of Prohibited Books was a more complicated production than legend suggests. Still, despite being on the wrong side of history, the Church did at least attempt a good faith effort in their treatment of books -- reading them carefully, if nothing else -- unlike their culture war descendants who have read none of the books they insist no one else should be allowed to read either.
