A very brief (80-some pages of solid text) guide to Lutyens and his early domestic house works. It was produced as a guide for a Lutyens exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, rather than an overall appraisal of the lifetime works.
Understanding the author, Roderick Gradidge, it becomes clear that this is about the idiosyncratic Lutyens advocate Gradidge's personal view of him. It's a valuable viewpoint on Lutyens' work and does illustrate the development of the early style well, but it's far show more from a complete history.
The book has an unusual and rather dated production style for 1981, with a section of plates at the rear and little illustration within the text. show less
