Short biography
Emlen McConnell (1872-1947) was an American artist and book illustrator. Born in Philadelphia in 1872, he lived in Haddonfield, New Jersey, and studied under Howard Pyle at the Brandywine School. McConnell was a frequent illustrator for The Saturday Evening Post, and his work appeared on five of its covers. He estimated that he had created eight hundred illustrations between 1899 and 1920. He stopped working as an illustrator in 1925, and devoted himself to painting landscapes, and to teaching art. He died in 1947.
