A good introductory overview of the history of voting in America, illustrating the troubled journey to granting voting rights to everyone and the ongoing struggle to overcome voter suppression, disenfranchisement, systemic racism, and a multitude of political dirty tricks and crimes. The author wears his liberal bias on his sleeve, so likeminded souls like me will nod along while those of the opposite bent are unlikely to be persuaded on their points of contention.
Simultaneous to reading show more this graphic novel, I'm in the midst of White Rage by Carol Anderson which goes into much greater detail about the horrific mechanics of voter suppression in the eras of Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and beyond. I recommend you check it out if this book piques your interest in the subject. show less

I'm always down for a good graphic novel, and found this one both drawn in a style that I enjoy, well-written, and on a very important and timely topic. As voters continue to be disenfranchised in the name of racism (and Republicans understanding that they cannot win when the majority of voters are allowed to actually, well, vote), it's important to understand the history of voting and how we've come to obtain the meager protections that we have, and that are continually being taken from us.
This is a fabulous book that should be in every school library. It is a wonderful look at the history of voting rights in the United States from the birth of our nation to the present moment, including the expansion of voting rights from only white men to include all races and sexes. It also looks at the importance of everyone voting to implement the changes they want. I found this book to be filled with important information presented in a clear, concise and easily understandable way so show more many, many people would benefit from reading it. show less
