This is a great childrens informational text for a number of reasons. First, the facts they give come in two forms: paragraph and tid-bit. The paragraphs give a nice simple description of the seasons and what happens during each.. The tid-bits give nice supporting details and extra fun facts or information that supplement the paragraphs so it can be read to a very young child, or an emerging reader can read more into it by themselves. The photographs are wonderful and include lots of show more supporting detail and add to the text. The big idea of this book is to inform all about the earth's seasons. show less
This book addresses many different aspects of exploring the world. It tells the reader about explorers from history, why and how exploring has evolved, and what the future of exploring entails. It mentions explorers from all over the world, and it mentioned some I had never heard of, such as Captain Cook and Ibn Battuta, so this book was great, especially since I love history. The book also has lots of pictures with captions and is organized in a manner that is very clear and less show more overwhelming than the Magic School Bus book. Another aspect of the book I liked was the thought you find at the end: "Today, most of the world is known and charted, and exploring has become more about endurance and breaking records than discovering new places." The book also mentions that people are fascinated by the idea of traveling to Mars and traveling deeper into the Earth's crust, so there is still much to discover. The big idea of this book is to be open to the many things you can discover if you go on a journey. It also encourages readers to become scientists or researchers so they can learn more about the world around them. show less
Students are taken on a deep sea journey as they dive into this interactive ocean book! There are great pictures, pull out pages, and facts about different sea creatures. Science students in upper elementary will love to learn from this informative, engaging, and colorful book.
The fold out pages of this book explain about different sea creatures. Each page shares facts about a different sea creature, from dolphins, to jellyfish, to sharks. The layout is cool as the facts are shared in diagram form with the pictures and many pages fold out into a giant picture of the creature. The giant jellyfish picture is intimidating!
