The children's picture book, "Sorting at the Market," teaches children about how we sort things every day, and then gives extensive examples at a food market. It shows how we sort by color, size, and shape. On each page, there is a real life photograph, taken from inside a market, that supports the sentence on the page. Sorting is an important concept for young children to grasp. This book can also be describe as a pattern book because each page starts with "we sort things...". For example, show more "We sort things on a list, We sort things in bags, We sort things in baskets." Pattern books are great to use with English language learners because if they can start to grasp the pattern, they will be more encouraged and likely to read along with you. I would use this book for a choral reading. I think the pictures are very detailed, vibrant, and aesthetically pleasing for children. This book would be great for introducing math because sorting is one of the first steps or early math development. show less
