I think this is a good book for young children who are learning colors. It explains different colors while incorporating some interesting facts about Australia. I like how his book provides good examples for each color and designates each page for a different color. On the first page “yellow” is written in a bolder text then the rest of the words to emphasize the word better. The entire page has a yellow background to help the reader understand and compare the word to the color. Finally show more there is a clear photo of what is being described, the page talks about a “yellow road sign” and a yellow road sign is shown in the photo. This same color pattern continues throughout the book with each color: green, red, blue and so on. This book would be a great tool to use when teaching children colors.
I also liked that throughout the book real photos are used. A real photo of the Sydney Opera House is shown, on page 7, when describing the roof as “giant white shells”.A real photo of houses in Australia is also shown when describing the “red tiles” on the roofs of homes. When informing children about real things it is always good to show a real life example to help children understand better. In addition to that each picture is bright and beautiful grabbing the readers attention.
The big idea of this book is to help teach children different colors by applying them to the real world while also providing information and photos about the Australian culture and landscapes. show less

This is a one book in a set of pattern books. There are 6 books within the set. I did use all 6 books for a math lesson conducted in my class. Since I work with children with special needs, I found this set to be a great reinforcer to my lesson on patterns. My students loved looking at the real-life colorful pictures. Its simple text and easy to read print made it easy for my students to follow along and stay engaged in the reading. Each book in the set has a table of contents, glossary, and show more index pages. It also provides young readers with suggested books to find out more information about patterns. What I really liked about these books are the internet sites suggested for them. My students love technology and I can not think of a better way to reinforce and assess their learning through the use of the website. Overall, I loved the simplicty of these books, colorful pictures and additional information it provides to the reader. show less
One of the books in a pattern book series. I used this in my class to support my lesson. I really liked the whole series. The text was very simple for my students and the real life pictures made it easy to follow. This book is more appropriate for younger students pre-k through 1st.
One version of Levi Struss and how and why he invented 501 jeans. It covers ha brief history of his father, mother and his brothers. It tells of the story of the miner which needed a very heavy long lasting pair of pants. The book is a hard cover but is written in the style ok a comic book which will be enjoyed by young children.
