From front to back, this book is chucked full of stones and all sorts of different aspects to prove how important this very large resource is.

This books is about rocks, and I mean that in a broad and wide sense. Everything from rock formations, minerals in space, architecture, careers, rock hounding tips, often-found stones, gems, unique rocks, lava, plate tectonics, history and more is covered. I'm not sure that it's possible to be more encompassing in the topic than this read is and still show more be firmly set for the middle grade audience. And that in a manner, which doesn't forget the attention span of the age group.

The information is divided into sections, which include everything from areas of the world to rock collecting information, to types of rocks, to the science behind rocks and so much more. Each page, then, holds a two-page-spread photo of something related to the topic as the background. Then, the more detailed topics are placed in colored boxes across the page, each with its own photo to highlight the information. The text is kept short and concise, and yet, brings across the facts in a relaxed and grabbing style. It keeps the information from growing heavy, allows readers to flip through and pick up the book here and there at will, and even offers information, which will catch more reluctant readers' eyes.

This isn't a book to be read through from beginning to end, but rather, invites to be picked up time and again...and offers so much discover. There is an index and glossary at the end to make it a lovely resource when looking for more specific information, but the book is more for those, who want to explore and simply grab up interesting tidbits along the way.

It makes a great resource for classrooms and libraries, and is even one which rock fans or science readers will enjoy getting their hands on.

I did enjoy this book, but I read it after I read another information text about Ramadan that I absolutely loved. If I compare the two, the other text was superior to this one. With that said, I do think that this book is a great informational text about Ramadan. This is a very easy text that children just learning to read can enjoy. I think that this book would be a great introduction to the idea that there are other religions and cultures different than their own. An important part of this show more book is the index explaining words that children might not be familiar with. A great feature of this book is the pictures. I like that the author chose a range of people to showcase. There are adults and children, different ethnicities, and the women and men are shown in different variety of dress. Some woman are shown wearing a hijabs and/or birkas, while some are not. Some men are shown with traditional woven caps while some men’s heads are bear. It is a great way to showcase diversity in a culture. Overall this text’s big idea is to teach young children about Ramadan and Id-ul-Fitr. show less

This interesting children's book shows the Christian traditions of Easter from Mardi Gras through Lent with rituals of various foodstuffs, the Easter story which is a spring festival that even includes fun like the easter bunny, dyeing eggs/egg hunts, and more. Nice for Christians and Non Christians alike.
The illustrations by Emma Randall are intricate, brilliantly colorful, and FUN!
Well suited for reading WITH someone any age from 5 and up including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, show more but especially to a school or your local public library!

I love this book especially for its format-- it first introduces biomes, and then goes on to talk about different specific biomes found in our world. I think this book does a good job describing, showing pictures of, and giving facts about different biomes. I also like that the book could be used for older OR younger grades-- it has solid information for older students, but is easy enough to use for younger students. The book also includes great resources like a glossary, index, and a show more "further reading" section with websites and books that give more information.

I would use this book to give students an introduction of habitats/biomes and to provide material for a biome research project.
