When you look up at the night sky, do you know that you are looking out into space? You have a home in this vast space . . . Earth. Earth is part of a space neighborhood called the solar system.

Young readers ages six and seven will learn about Earth, the planets of the solar system, moons, and more in this Scholastic Science Vocabulary Reader that introduces first- and second-grade students to the solar system. Using pictures, diagrams, and a simple text to help strengthen reading skills show more and vocabulary, the book addresses three main topics: Our Home in Space, Our Neighbors, and Moons and More. In each section, Fast Fact boxes provide a piece of information related to the topic.

A glossary and three comprehension questions help young readers assess their understanding of the information presented in the book.

Highly recommended, especially for students interested in science, the planets, the solar system, and /or space exploration.

This book introduces a lot of homes underground. It covers animals who live there and how they make/live in their homes underground.
This book will be very good to use in a habitat type of lesson. We learn about how homes are made underground and the reasons these creatures prefer to live there. This would help struggling readers in older age groups as well!
I really like this book to introduce the butterfly life cycle. It is a very detailed text because of it's pictures. There are step by step pictures that show the cycle. It is divided into chapters focusing on each stage. There are captions and labels on all of the pictures.
This informational book shares facts about the planets and provides ways to remember them. The book includes key vocabulary about planets which is bolded for students to point out. The colored photographs help create a visual of the planets in the reader's mind and the fun facts throughout keep the reader engaged.
